Loading and unloading near homes
A loading dock combines short noise peaks with longer periods of noise: trucks, tail lifts, roll cages, pallet trucks and refrigeration units. Identify the activities causing disturbance, the location of nearby homes and delivery times first. A barrier is not a substitute for well-organised deliveries.
A barrier around the loading area or at the boundary?
The position must suit the noise source and the homes to protect. We discuss height and length using your layout and acoustic study. Keep space for turning vehicles, tail lifts, pedestrians and access. Gaps and entrances need attention because sound can pass through them.
Supermarket refrigeration and HVAC
Noise does not stop when the truck leaves. Condensers, chillers and ventilation can operate outside store hours. Include these fixed sources separately. Local screening or an enclosure may need a different approach from the loading dock barrier, with ventilation and maintenance included in the design.
Retail and distribution permits and specifications
Ask your acoustic consultant to establish the noise conditions for the location and operating hours. VLAREM is relevant in Flanders; other Belgian regions, Luxembourg and France have local assessments. Send the study and permit conditions for a tailored proposal. A barrier alone does not guarantee a permit.
