Acoustic barriers

Custom sound walls for garden, business and padel

A sound wall, also called an acoustic barrier or geluidsscherm, is the most effective way to block traffic noise, heat pumps, padel courts or industrial noise. Noise Solutions has installed sound walls across Belgium and Luxembourg for over 15 years, with 500+ completed projects in Flanders and Wallonia. Below we compare the three systems that cover 95% of every acoustic barrier we build.

Kokowall sound barrier along a road with a natural coconut fibre finish and a brick industrial building in the background

    Kokowall

Natural coconut fibre sound barrier with high absorption

Kokowall is a modular, plantable sound barrier with an exterior of natural coconut fibre wrapped around recycled ABS tubes. The panels are built as a sandwich construction: two rows of sound-absorbing coconut tubes with a sound-insulating core in between. This allows Kokowall to combine high absorption (DLα up to 12 dB, cat. A4) with an insulation value of Rw 30 dB, placing it in the highest insulation class B3 according to EN 1793. Thanks to its light weight of approximately 25 kg/m², a narrow foundation is sufficient, and the barrier can be installed quickly, even in locations where concrete barriers or earth berms are not feasible. The natural coconut fibre also provides an ideal surface for climbing plants, allowing the barrier to become fully green within a few years. Kokowall is produced in accordance with CE standard EN 14388 and is treated with FR Firestop C26 for fire retardancy.

    Characteristics

    • High sound absorption up to DLα 12 dB (category A4)
    • Plantable on both sides: fully green within a few years
    • Anti-graffiti thanks to its diffuse, non-smooth surface texture
    • Lightweight (approx. 25 kg/m²): narrow foundation, fast installation
    • Modular system, heights up to 10 m above ground level
    • Fire-retardant treated (FR Firestop C26), CE-certified EN 14388

    Best suited for

Residential areas, gardens, schools, padel clubs, traffic noise in green zones

Frequently asked questions about acoustic barriers

What does a sound wall cost in Belgium?

Prices for an acoustic barrier start at around 200 EUR per square metre, including installation. Coconut, steel and transparent walls are priced higher. The exact price depends on material, height and site accessibility.

What is the difference between a sound wall and an acoustic barrier?

In practice the terms mean the same thing: a vertical construction that blocks and absorbs noise. 'Sound wall' is often used for industrial constructions from 3 m upwards, 'acoustic barrier' more for residential settings. Noise Solutions delivers both.

How many decibels does an acoustic barrier reduce?

A correctly sized sound wall reduces perceived noise by 10 to 25 dB. A 10 dB reduction is perceived as halving the noise.

Do I need a permit for an acoustic barrier in Flanders?

In Flanders, walls up to 2 m are usually permit-free provided you respect the distance to the property boundary. Higher walls or protected areas require a notification or environmental permit. We help you with the application.

Which acoustic barrier is best for a garden?

Residential clients typically choose Kokowall (natural coconut fibre, plantable) or a wooden barrier. For gardens near busy roads, we advise Noise-Reducer with a wood finish for maximum reduction combined with a warm look.

Do you install acoustic barriers across Belgium?

Yes. We install barriers throughout Flanders, Brussels, Wallonia and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Our own team visits your site free of charge to advise and quote.
