Enclosure for heat pumps on apartment building, Ghent
Acoustic enclosure for 6 heat pumps on the roof of an apartment building in Ghent. The heat pumps were causing noise pollution for neighbours and did not comply with Flemish noise standards.
The challenge
Six heat pumps on the roof of a new building produced a combined noise level of 68 dB(A). Neighbours filed complaints with the municipality, and the building did not meet VLAREM standards.
Our solution
We designed and installed custom-made acoustic enclosures around each heat pump, with sufficient ventilation openings to ensure proper operation. The units were finished in RAL 7016 (anthracite) to match the building.
Perforated steel with acoustic absorption layers
The result
The noise level at the property line dropped to 42 dB(A), well within VLAREM standards. The complaints stopped completely, and the heat pumps maintained their efficiency.
