Acoustic barriers against railway noise
Homes along Infrabel railway lines, tram lines and freight tracks face daily peaks up to 90 dB. Especially at night, when freight trains run, this disturbs sleep. Infrabel projects do not cover every bottleneck. Noise Solutions installs private acoustic barriers along your property towards the tracks.
Why railway noise is persistent
Trains combine rolling noise (60 to 80 dB continuous), braking noise and, for freight, heavy wheel noise. Under viaducts and at switches these are further amplified. Regular garden fencing offers no protection because it is too light and too open.
Our approach
We install Kokowall or Noise-Reducer barriers up to 3 m high along your property line facing the tracks. Important: the barrier must be at least twice as long as the distance to your home, otherwise the sound diffracts around it. We calculate optimal length and height on site.
Complementary to Infrabel projects
Where Infrabel installs its own barriers (typically only in major mitigation projects), we can add a second-line screen on your property for extra reduction. Permit is usually limited to a planning notification up to 2 m; above 2 m an environmental permit is needed.
Result
Reduction of 10 to 18 dB in the garden and at the façade facing the tracks. This feels like halving (or more) the perceived train noise.
Recommended materials
Kokowall
High absorption, natural look, plantable.
Noise-Reducer
Maximum insulation for peaks from freight trains.
