Noise barrier along motorway, Antwerp
Installation of a 120-metre-long noise barrier along the E17 motorway near a residential area in Antwerp. For years, residents had been experiencing severe noise pollution from the heavy motorway traffic.
The challenge
The residential area was directly adjacent to the E17, one of Belgium's busiest motorways. Residents complained of constant noise pollution, especially during rush hours. The noise levels reached up to 75 dB(A) in their gardens.
Our solution
We installed a 120-metre-long and 4-metre-high steel noise barrier with sound-absorbing rock wool filling. The barrier was combined with transparent panels at the top to minimise light loss.
Steel with rock wool filling and transparent PMMA panels
The result
The average noise reduction was 25 dB(A), allowing residents to fully enjoy their gardens again. Noise levels dropped from 75 to 50 dB(A).
