Acoustic barriers for shooting ranges
Outdoor shooting ranges and clay pigeon shooting produce sharp impulse sounds that carry for kilometres. Complaints from local residents regularly lead to reduced opening hours or closures. Indoor ranges additionally suffer heavy reverberation that is dangerous for shooters. Noise Solutions delivers solutions for both.
Why shot noise is exceptional
A shot combines a short peak (140 to 160 dB at source) with a broad frequency spectrum. Unlike continuous noise, impulse noise is perceived even more sharply by neighbours. Clay pigeon and hunting stands add an open setup, so the sound is barely dampened by buildings.
Our outdoor approach
We build high absorbing walls (Kokowall or Noise-Reducer) around the shooting positions. The barriers absorb low-frequency components and break the direct sound path towards neighbours. For clay pigeon stands we use tilting panels that shield the emission direction of each stand.
Our indoor approach
In covered shooting ranges we install ballistic-resistant acoustic wall panels on side and back walls. This reduces reverberation and lowers peak levels for shooters and instructors, in line with occupational health limits (87 dB(A)).
Legal framework
Shooting ranges fall under VLAREM II and the weapons act. Environmental permits are enforced ever more strictly, with specific attention to impulse peaks. We work with certified acoustic consultants to support the permit procedure.
Recommended materials
Noise-Reducer
Effectively isolates impulse noise and peaks.
Kokowall
Absorbs low-frequency components of shots.
Indoor acoustic panels
Ballistic-resistant, reduces reverberation and peak levels indoors.
